Why are students with brain injury more socially isolated?
May not be on the same cognitive and behavioral level as his/her peers.
May have poor social cognitive skills
.
May be unaware of their strengths / weaknesses.
May not know the "rules" or "code" of social behavior appropriate for adolescents.
May have personality changes.
May be fatigued and not have the same interests they had prior to the brain injury.
May have decreased self-esteem.
May be unable to initiate conversations or activity.
May have fewer opportunities to interact with peers or participate in the same activities as their peers.
Parents / caregivers may be overprotective.
Other adolescents may feel uncomfortable with the person with brain injury.
